What's new at Orlando's

Hello Everybody.

Welcome to the latest Orlando's news.

Firstly, a big thank you to our regular customers.

The challenges facing hospitality businesses are well documented, and post-Christmas is always a nervous period for the trade. Your support through these wet winter months has been precious and heartwarming.

With spring in the air we are refreshing our stock lists. We have some delicious and interesting new wines. Favourites amongst them are two representatives of what we think of as our house grape: Sangiovese.

Although well known for being the Chianti grape it is planted widely throughout Tuscany and adopts many styles.

Our new Chianti Riserva '22 from Vignamaggio is quite typical in its cherry overtones, but 18 months in oak has given great structure and depth. £22.50

Also new from Vignamaggio is another Sangiovese blend with 50% Merlot: 'Mezzanotte' 2018 is a fresher style but with a soft and chewy texture, nice berry flavours and a spicy undertone. £23.50

Whilst we're talking about Sangiovese might we tempt you with a generously discounted 'Mastio'.

This is one of our unique UK imports from Monterosola, also in Tuscany. With another shipment on it's way, carrying the new vintages, we would like to make room by moving on the remaining 2021 bottles. (Decanter 90pts).

A great partner to many dishes with bright acidity and a touch of dryness on the finish.

Reduced from £18.50 to £15.50

Gorgeous nose! Black cherries and wet tar and fresh, homemade strawberry jam. Glossy, glistening dark-berried fruit with a lovely wild, briary flavour and a touch of bramble leafiness. Minty lift and freshness. Lovely balance. Lip-smacking finish.” – Jancis Robinson

Vermouth! We are told by media, social and otherwise, that vermouth is the new best thing. For us it's the old best thing and we've recently expanded our range to include many of the Italian classics. View our collection of Vermouths here.

Gin! Whilst the frenetic gin rush of recent years shows clear signs of calming, good gin is a timeless pleasure, and good gin with local provenance is a bonus.

We are very happy to present two regional champions of high quality gins with a variety of botanical styles, and beautifully presented too. You will find Loveday from Falmouth and Trevethen from the Tamar Valley in our shop and on our website.

For a stimulating and refreshing alternative to wine we highly recommend an exploration of vermouth. Events, we've had a few. Some lovely nights hosting cheese and wine (and vermouth) with Matthew, a cheese expert and member of the venerable Academy of Cheese.

We're planning more of these throughout 2026. Plymouth Jazz singer Louise Parker and her talented musician friends are soon to play another gig here in the shop. It feels like our very own Tiny Desk scenario; intimate and appreciative.

Our new website is regularly updated with new wines, and indeed vermouths. Regular deliveries to Plymouth and the surrounding area.

We are available for private tastings, wedding wine enquiries and probably many other things too. Do call or email with any questions. We host regular events but they fill up quickly. If you would like to be added to the events mailing list please let us know.

Thanks again.

All best wishes from the team at Orlando's
