Amaro Montenegro

Born in Bologna in 1885, Amaro Montenegro is one of Italy’s most iconic and revered botanical liqueurs. Created by the alchemist Stanislao Cobianchi, it is crafted using a secret blend of 40 botanicals from around the world, which are processed through four distinct methods—boiling, maceration, and distillation—to achieve its legendary complexity.

The liqueur possesses a clear, warm amber glow. The bouquet is remarkably intricate, opening with notes of orange peel, fresh coriander and red cherry, followed by deeper herbal undertones of cucumber and celery. On the palate, it is celebrated for its unique "bittersweet" profile, where honeyed sweetness gives way to a pleasant, mildly bitter finish of tangerine and dark chocolate.

Highly versatile, it is traditionally served neat or on the rocks as a classic digestif. It has also become a favourite in modern mixology, often used to add depth to sophisticated cocktails.
